There is also a slew of colorful, interesting characters and an engrossing plot with a satisfying ending.

From the other reviewsof this product I expected a lot more than I got. The whole thing was too predictable for my taste. the author included an awful lot of detailed description of some pretty limited action scenes. Young adults, maybe?
Clint Ryan with the help of his friends Toy Chang and Blanchard along with a slick lawyer named Clifford Stanhope intends to not only clear his name as the cause of death of over a hundred people but too also to deliver the true culprit to law. If he doesn't get killed first. A good read with some of history thrown in.
Martin writes good "cowboy " books and has a good knowledge of the time period of California
His books are spellbinding do not have boring detailed descriptions of for example the new rifles
I would recommend all his Clint Ryan books to other readers as good value for money

Great characters and loads of action throughout this great book. Extremely hard to put down, this book will not disappoint. Great main and sub plot lines keep you engaged all the way until the very end. Great work for the price. Would recommend!
I am a speed reader and L. J. Martin either has to learn how to speed write or I have to learn patience. I prefer the former but I am quite certain I will have to settle for the later. I own every book L.J. Martin has published on . I am a western book buff and I have a library filled with westerns that would stump the Library of Congress. Keep up the excellent work, Larry. This reader appreciates your efforts.
I generally don't read very much fiction, and when I do it's usually science fiction. Nonetheless, as it was a good price and I am interested in this time period, I purchased Benica Belle for my . I'm glad I did. The author pains a vivid portrait of a land of opportunity that, given California's current situation, can scarcely be imagined. Our guide through this riverboat adventure is John Ryan, a character who reminds me a little bit of a western version of Jim Rockford (of the Rockford Files ) . He can fight if he has too, although he'd prefer to avoid it. He tries to do the right thing, but he just keeps getting in deeper. If you like westerns or have an interest in this time period, you might want to give Belle a try.
I normally do not read much fiction and I've never read Westerns, but this book was a game-changer for me. I've lived in California for only a few years and the fact that this book was set in the mid-1800s in the area near where I live drew me in. California then was a land of opportunity, but often there was misfortune. The characters and settings are well-developed and the story is a page-turner. I read the last ¾ of the book yesterday morning because I could not put it down. I'm hooked on the Clint Ryan character and will be downloading more books from the Clint Ryan series by L.J. Martin soon.
